Dr Katy Abbott is forensically curious about what makes us tick. She works with artists to connect who they are with the art they make so that they show up unapologetically and have strong voices in the world.
As The Artists' Mentor, she supports artists to have big and whole-hearted careers.
A highly awarded composer, she holds an MMus and PhD in Composition, plus a Bachelor’s degree in Education, and is a Senior Lecturer in Composition at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. She has 5 solo albums and a swag of composition prizes. Katy's work is performed, recorded and broadcast around the world.
'My forays into music, education, and quests for knowledge were always intertwined. I’ve been composing music for decades, manage two businesses, and a mother to teens. It’s safe to say my life has always been a delicate balance of details – which I love!'
Composing music has allowed me to give voice to those who don’t have one, or whose voices have been suppressed. I've learned I love supporting other artists to have a strong voice in the world - that is authentically their own. I’ve always been drawn to digging into the nitty gritty of everything. I started composing in my late twenties – from an inkling – and from that point onward, it was how all my big projects started.
My gift is knowing how to get artists where they want to go so they can have a vibrant, long-term careers that has momentum, meaning and impact.
